Motorists travelling on the Malahat section of the Trans-Canada Highway near the ongoing $24-million project around Tunnel Hill are being warned to expect delays in the evenings and overnight.

Starting Monday, single-lane alternating traffic will be in effect from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. to allow for work on drainage and final grading and paving of the road.

The work is expected to take place four or five nights a week, including Sunday nights, until the project winds up this fall.

Delays could be up to 20 minutes. Short traffic stoppages could also occur during the day outside peak travel times when personnel and equipment are positioned.

The timing of the work aligns with low-traffic times.

Crews are repairing damage from a washout during flooding in November 2021.

Drivers are being reminded to obey traffic-management personnel and signage.
