Island Health has been in negotiations with Victoria Hospitalist Physicians Inc., which represents about 60 hospital-based doctors, or hospitalists, for two months. But as an Island Health-mandated deadline of July 1 approaches, no deal is in sight.

A Greater Victoria man is dead after suffering a heart attack while driving.

The man, 56, was driving at a slow speed in traffic at Tillicum and Craigflower roads, when police believe he began having a heart attack. His car rolled off the road and into a pole, but there was minimal damage to his vehicle.

Victoria police arrived at the scene at 7:25 a.m.

“B.C. Ambulance was first on scene and attempted life-saving measures but unfortunately the man succumbed to his [condition],” said Victoria police Sgt. Derek Tolmie.

The man was transported to hospital but pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Saanich police are warning drivers to take caution, following numerous reports of icy road conditions today. Police responded to a minor single vehicle crash on West Saanich Road this morning, which is reported to be particularly icy.
