Driver hit with $1,000 in fines after passing police car at 165 km/h in View Royal

West Shore RCMP impounded the vehicle for seven days and issued tickets totalling more than $1,000 for excessive speeding and failing to show a driver’s licence.

A driver who passed a police car while doing 165 km/h on the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal has been slapped with more than $1,000 in fines and had their car impounded.

West Shore RCMP said the driver of a 2024 Hyundai Elantra was clocked at more than 75 kilometres per hour over the 90 km/h speed limit near Helmcken Road shortly after midnight on Monday.

Police impounded the vehicle for seven days and issued tickets totalling more than $1,000 for excessive speeding and failing to show a driver’s licence.

The driver showed a photo of their licence but did not have the physical licence with them as required by law when driving, RCMP said.
