A driver who passed a police car while doing 165 km/h on the Trans-Canada Highway in View Royal has been slapped with more than $1,000 in fines and had their car impounded.
West Shore RCMP said the driver of a 2024 Hyundai Elantra was clocked at more than 75 kilometres per hour over the 90 km/h speed limit near Helmcken Road shortly after midnight on Monday.
Police impounded the vehicle for seven days and issued tickets totalling more than $1,000 for excessive speeding and failing to show a driver’s licence.
The driver showed a photo of their licence but did not have the physical licence with them as required by law when driving, RCMP said.
