Driver dies after head-on crash with dump truck near Port Hardy

Impairment is not believed to have played a role, RCMP say.

The driver of a pickup truck has died after a head-on collision with a dump truck near Port Hardy.

RCMP Cpl. Alex Bérubé said police were called to Highway 19 at the 395-kilometre marker south of Port Hardy on Friday after recieving a report of a head-on collision.

The initial evidence suggests a northbound brown Ford F350 collided with a green dump truck travelling in the other direction, Bérubé said in a statement.

The driver of the pickup died at the scene, while the driver of the dump truck was taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life threatening.

Impairment is not believed to have played a role in the collision, Bérubé said.
