Victoria police arrested a man after a weapon was pointed at a driver heading to meet his daughter for breakfast Saturday morning.
Officers were called to the intersection of Douglas and Finlayson streets by a report that a driver had pointed a weapon at another driver.
The victim reported about 9:45 a.m. that another vehicle had been driving dangerously in front of him and preventing other traffic from passing.
When the victim was able to pass, the other driver began yelling and pointing the weapon.
The victim left the area, got to a safe spot and called 911, and also managed to use his mobile phone to take pictures of the suspect vehicle — which he shared with police.
Soon after, police were notified that a vehicle was parked in front of a business in the 3000-block of Shelbourne Street and the driver was showing signs of impairment.
His description matched the one given of the driver in the previous incident, and officers arrested him at gunpoint.
They searched the car and found a pellet gun resembling a handgun, as well as drugs and drug paraphernalia. The driver failed a field sobriety test and was taken to police cells for further drug-impairment investigation.
Police said the car had a number of deficiencies that made it unsafe to drive.
The man was released with a court date and is facing recommended charges of pointing a firearm and impaired driving. He also received a 24-hour driving prohibition, and tickets for both traffic offences and Cannabis Act offences.
