CARSON, Genevieve (Jenny) July 13, 1915 - December 1, 2012 Passed away at her Oak Bay home, age 97. Loving mother of Arlene (Fred Apstein), proud Grandma of Emily, numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Placentia Bay, Nfld.

CARSON, Genevieve (Jenny)

July 13, 1915 - December 1, 2012

Passed away at her Oak Bay home, age 97. Loving mother of Arlene (Fred Apstein), proud Grandma of Emily, numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Placentia Bay, Nfld. to Jane (Power) and Maurice Mullally, Jenny immigrated to Montreal in 1933. She assembled airplanes during WWII and enjoyed work as inspector with Northern Telecom. In 1954, she married loving husband Stan. Predeceased by Stan and siblings Mary Ann, Madeline, Cyril, and Edmund. Outgoing and spirited, Jenny made the trek home to Nfld. from Victoria for her 92nd birthday, loving every minute. She will be greatly missed.

Funeral mass Friday, December 7th, 12: 10 pm at St. Patrick's, 2060 Haultain St. Victoria.

CLARKE, Leslie Edward "Les"

1924 - 2012

Les died peacefully on November 23, 2012 at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital. He was born on April 1924 in the Village of Chadwell St Mary near Gray, Essex in England. He leaves his wife Hazel Clarke and two daughters, Hilary (Mike) Tredwell and Janet (Eric) McKinstry. Also five grandchildren; Andrew Tredwell, Chris (Emily) Tredwell, Lesley Tredwell, Cortnie (Gary) Clarke and David Clarke. He joined the RAF in WW2 and did his flight training in Mesa, Arizona. The family emigrated to Canada in 1957, coming directly to Victoria, BC. He was first employed at the Department of Lands and Forests ten computer administration with BC Assessment and the Municipality of Saanich until retirement in 1988. Following retirement Les and Hazel traveled the world.

He always put his family first and never lost his sense of humour. We will all miss him dearly. A remembrance tea will be held at Amica Beechwood, 2315 Mills Rd in Sidney from 2-3 PM on Dec. 9, 2012. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Foundation or to the charity of your choice.

ESTES, Darry (née Horner)

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, sister and friend. Following a battle with cancer, Darry passed away peacefully at home on November 30, 2012. She is survived by her dear husband Sandy, her cherished children Max Oudendag and Madeline Knight (Ben), her brothers and sisters, Keith (Jane), Heather (Guy), Roger and Shannon (Barton) and her large extended family. Darry was born in Vancouver and spent most of her adult life in the Comox Valley. She was a teacher, "Mrs. O", counsellor and supporter of children with special learning needs and their families. It was work she was called to and loved very much. She was also a long time community volunteer for a number of groups including the Transition House and the Merville Grandmothers. Darry had a great love of family and friends. She created beauty around her - in the warmth of her relationships, in her garden or a meal shared. But above all she had a generosity of spirit that was her greatest gift to all who knew her.

A celebration of her life will be held at N.I.D.E.S., (old Tsolumn Elementary School) to which all are welcome, Saturday December 8th 2: 00pm to 4: 00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to the Comox Valley Transition Society and the Merville Grandmothers.

ELLIOTT, Robert "Edward"

FOGELKLOU, Paula Edith (nee Bauman)

May 10, 1943 - December 2, 2012

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Paula Fogelklou, loving mother, sister, grandmother and friend, on December 2, 2012 at the age of 69. Beloved daughter of Alfred and Rose Bauman (deceased), Paula is survived by her sons Christopher (Johanna), Tony (Jaclyn), grandsons Noah and Elliott, and by family, Klas (Gail), brothers Robert, Vincent (Diane), Alan; sisters Marguerite Reinhart and Rosemary Morgan (Gerard, deceased). Predeceased by brothers Gilbert, Jerome, Ronald (Mary Jane), Leroy, Paul; sisters Audrey Colon and Kathleen Haller. Also survived by sisters-in-law Patricia (Jerome), Sally Anne (Gilbert), Margaret (Leroy), brothers-in-law Jose Colon (Audrey), Paul Haller (Dianne), and by her many nieces and nephews. Paula was born and raised in Kitchener, Ontario. She moved to the west coast, married, and eventually settled in Victoria with her family in 1988. An active member of the congregation of St. Joseph's the Worker, she loved singing with the Arbutus Choir and devoted many hours to volunteer work at the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Paula touched the lives of everyone she met and will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Funeral Mass followed by a celebration of her life will be held at St. Joseph the Worker, 753 Burnside Road West, Victoria, on Saturday, December 8th at 12: 00 noon. Children are welcome. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for all the love and support Paula received over the past few months, with particular mention going to Pat and Jeanette Bowman, who gave so generously of their time, and to Peter Hawksford, for his devoted companionship. Special thanks to the wonderful staff and volunteers at the Victoria Hospice, who showed such compassion and kindness towards Paula and her family during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to the Victoria Hospice and Palliative Care Foundation in Paula's memory.

INNES, Laura Belle

Born January 31, 1918 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, passed away at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC on December 2, 2012. She was predeceased by her sisters, Ruth Brault and Georina MacKenzie. She worked for Crease & Co. for many years, was a member of the Gorge Vale Golf Club for 25 years and then moved to Cedar Hill Golf Club for a few more years. She was an avid curler at the Victoria Curling Club and Juan de Fuca Club. She always enjoyed the friendship from the people in those sports. She made many trips to Hawaii and a trip to Buleton, California with friends for a golf holiday. The bus trips to Reno were always the highlight. She played poker at Six Mile House and at the Langford Legion at 94. Her many friends will miss her. She will be sadly missed by her husband, John, as they were partners and travelled the world together. The family would like to thank Dr. Critchley for all his help and the staff at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, they made her more comfortable.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 7, 2012, at 10 am at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC. With a reception to follow.

GOUDREAU, Lucien (Lou)

November 15, 1929 - November 30, 2012

Lou passed away peacefully at Oak Bay Lodge in Victoria. Born in Wotton (Easter Townships) QC to Oscar and Leonie Goudreau on November 15th 1929. Lou worked in Sudbury Ontario, moved to Los Angeles in 1963, was meat manager for Vons Grocery. After many trips to BC for hunting and fishing he decided to move to the island for his retirement. An avid golfer, Arbutus Ridge became his home for 22 years. He loved all sports and enjoyed travelling. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Denise, his sisters Adrienne of Annapolis MD, Helene of Montreal, Denyse of Santa Monica CA, brother-in-law Jean Paul Nault (Colette), many nephews, nieces and cousins.

The funeral service will be held at 11.00AM on December 8, 2012 At St. Francis Xavier, 790 Kilmalu Rd, Mill Bay with reception to follow at Arbutus Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cowichan Valley Hospice Society. Arrangements have been entrusted to First Memorial Funeral Services, 4725 Falaise Drive, Victoria, BC.

JONES, Lucretia May

March 19th, 1927 - December 2nd, 2012

It is with profound sadness that the family of Lucretia May Jones of Ladysmith, BC announces her passing on December 2, 2012.

Born in Vancouver, BC on March 19, 1927 she was the only child of Lucretia and Albert Bogren. She moved to Ladysmith when she was 9 and became a proud long term resident.

In 1949 she married Ronald Jones and together they raised four children. She was a home maker and an active member of her church and community. Lou was a long time member of Native Daughters and was Chief Factor of B.C. She was also a longtime member of Eastern Star and was Worthy Matron of B.C. Recently Lou helped with the OES cancer dressings, delivered meals on wheels, and helped out at the food bank.

Throughout her life she remained active and engaged. Mom skied into her 70's, golfed into her 80's, and never missed a summer swimming at the Transfer Beach. She also kept her mind active playing cribbage and doing daily crosswords and jumbles.

Her family was her joy and she treasured her time with us. She was a devoted Grandma and spent many hours at the soccer field, the rugby pitch, the basketball bleachers and the junior golf galleries.

She was predeceased by her husband Ronald in 1993. She is survived by her children Susan (Michael), Philip (Shelley), Pamela (Dan), David and her grandchildren Charlotte, Kyle, Nick (Youssef), Paul, Colton, Dallas, and Mariah. She also leaves behind her special friend Roy Halling.

The family wishes to thank the Emergency Response Team, Dr. Walmsley, the Emergency Staff and the Palliative Care Staff at NRGH for the excellent and compassionate care we all received.

Her service will be at Saint John's Anglican Church in Ladysmith at 11: 00 AM Saturday December 8th. The reception will follow at the Church Hall. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

YATES, Richard (Dick) William

Born 4 June 1918 in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Passed away at his home in Sidney BC on 30 November 2012. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Helene in 2001 and was very lonely without her. He will be greatly missed by his family. He grew up in Devon and Staffordshire England. He was a veteran of WWII and enlisted on 03 September 1939 with the RAF. He swa action during the Battle of Britain with #10 Service Flying Training

School. Then with the British Commonwealth Air Training Plan in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and then saw action in Algeria, Tunisia, North Africa, Sicily and Italy with the Mediterranean Mid East (MEDME) Communications Squadron. He was demobbed in December 1945, and moved back to Canada in April 1949 settling first in Edmonton, Alberta and then Victoria, BC in 1964. He retired from the Queen's Printers in 1982. He leaves his sister Mrs. Dorothy Fullerton in Willenhall, West Midlands, England. He is survived by his sons Richard (Dick) (Blanca) in Lake Cowichan and Bob (Adele) in Edmonton, Alberta. His grandchildren, Richard G. Yates in Ottawa, Ontario, Andrea Yates in Malibu, California, Jason and David Yates in Edmonton, Alberta, great-grandson Robert Lee Yates in Calgary, Alberta and step-grandson Harold Tamacas Perla in Victoria, BC.

At his request there will be no service or funeral. A family graveside will take place. He goes to join his wife Helene.
