Crews managed to keep damage to a Sidney home to a minimum Thursday after fire broke out in an adjacent out building.

The fire on Colinwood Road, near Resthaven Park, was reported about 2 p.m.

Sidney Fire Chief Brett Mikkelsen said there were concerns that flames were going spread to the house “but, fortunately, we got there very quickly and managed to knock down the main body of the fire.”

There was still considerable smoke damage and some water damage to the house, he said.

“Our Emergency Support Services team were called and they’ll be looking after the displaced family for the next few days until they can get some remediation done.”

Two people were in the home at the time of the fire and got out safely, Mikkelsen said.

The Central Saanich and North Saanich fire departments responded, as well, he said.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
