A B.C. Ferries vessel stopped off Brentwood Bay to rescue a person who had fallen into the water on Tuesday.

A crew member on the MV Klitsa spotted an overturned canoe and one person in the water shortly after the ferry left Brentwood Bay on the 5:55 p.m. sailing, Astrid Chang, B.C. Ferries’ communications manager, said Wednesday.

Crew members launched a lifeboat and brought the person to shore, she said. The Klitsa serves the Brentwood Bay-Mill Bay route.

As a result of the incident, the ferry’s return trip out of Mill Bay was delayed slightly, leaving at 6:43 p.m. instead of the scheduled 6:30 p.m.

“Our crews are highly trained to respond in the event of a marine emergency, and we thank them for their quick actions,” Chang said.
