Victoria fire and police respond to a motor vehicle accident involving an unmarked police cruiser and an SUV at the corner of Bay and Blanshard streets on Aug. 28, 2013.

A crash between an unmarked police car and an SUV shut down the southbound lane of Blanshard Street at Bay Street for about 40 minutes on Wednesday afternoon.

Victoria Police Const. Mike Russell said the police cruiser was heading west on Bay Street when it collided with the southbound SUV about 2:20 p.m.

B.C. Ambulance Service attended but there were no reported injuries.

Russell said police were checking to see whether the police car’s sirens were on at the time, but was unsure if any outside agencies — such as the Indepedent Investigations Office, which investigates officer-related incidents of death or serious harm — would become involved.

Blanshard Street was reopened about 3 p.m.
