Cormorant Island hospital emergency department closed until Friday

Staff shortage has forced closing.

The emergency department on Cormorant Island will be closed today and Thursday due to a staff shortage.

Island Health said the emergency department at Cormorant Island Community Health Centre will reopen on Friday at 8 a.m.

Anyone experiencing a medical emergency during this time should call 911. Going to the health centre while closed will delay access to care.

Residents can access advice from a registered nurse 24/7 by calling HealthLink B.C. at 811 if they are unsure if they’re in a medical situation requiring emergency treatment.

First Nations communities can access virtual services from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. seven days a week through the First Nations Health Authority’s virtual doctor of the day.

Appointments can be booked by calling 1-855-344-3800.
