Contract for deputy director of Victoria sewage megaproject extended

The deputy director of Greater Victoria’s sewage treatment megaproject has had his contract extended until the end of the year.

The deputy director of Greater Victoria’s sewage treatment megaproject has had his contract extended until the end of the year.

Tony Brcic, who was hired in 2008 on a five-year contract as one of the sewage project’s first managers, will remain on the job until at least the end of 2013, says the Capital Regional District.

The decision was made by CRD chief administrative officer Robert Lapham, using money within the CRD’s $783-million sewage treatment project, said the CRD.

Brcic is a Victoria engineer who helped plan Sooke’s secondary sewage treatment plant in 2005 and spent 18 years with international engineering firm Stantec before starting his own consulting firm in Langford.

The CRD says he’ll continue to be paid on his own scale, up to $135,000, and whether Brcic stays beyond the end of the year will be a decision made by the new incoming sewage project director, Albert Sweetnam.
