Port Alberni RCMP say charges are not being considered in the death of a teenage cyclist who died Wednesday after a collision with a vehicle.

The incident involved a tractor trailer and happened about 3:15 p.m. at the intersection of Redfern Street and 10th Avenue.

Police said the driver remained at the scene and was co-operative.

Port Alberni Insp. Brian Hunter said police are not considering charges.

“The investigation has shown that the collision which claimed the life of this 17-year-old girl was a tragic accident,” Hunter said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers go out to her family and friends at this very difficult time.”

The girl has not been identified.

Police said the investigation has been handed over to the B.C. Coroners Service.
