Central Saanich residents go to the polls in a byelection today to elect two new councillors.

Polls are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Central Saanich municipal hall, 1903 Mount Newton Cross Rd., Saanichton, and the Central Saanich Cultural Centre, 1209 Clarke Rd., in Brentwood Bay.

Three former councillors — Christopher Graham, Susan Mason and Bob Thompson — are standing for election. Also on the ballot are small-business entrepreneur Alicia Cormier; John Hannam, a farmer and a retired teacher; business owner James McNulty; Bernie Struck, president of a residential rental company and of a forestry consulting firm; and Ryan Windsor, director of marketing and operations for a vineyard.

The byelection is being held to replace Terry Siklenka, who resigned after it was discovered he was living and working in the Cayman Islands while on a paid leave from council, and Adam Olsen, who resigned to run for the Green party in the May 14 provincial election.
