John Hillman is just 10 laps into his latest fundraising challenge, and he’s already raised more than $25,000.

For the fourth year in a row, the 104-year-old Second World War veteran is walking laps around the courtyard at Carlton House of Oak Bay to raise money for children in need.

As in previous years, Hillman is walking the same number of laps as his age. He plans to complete at least 10 laps a day.

His goal is to raise a total of $104,000 for Save the Children Canada.

“But if I can go higher than that, I would love to go to a million,” Hillman told CHEK News.

The total was at $25,042 as of Monday evening.

Monday’s laps were done with Oak Bay Mayor Kevin Murdoch and fellow Carlton House residents by his side.

Since starting the challenge in 2020, Hillman has raised $333,000.

Donations can be made through the Save the Children website.
