Cedar Hill Golf Course reopened Tuesday after being closed for nearly two weeks due to snow and standing water from heavy rains, but the clubhouse is expected to be closed for several months.
“It’s reopening [Tuesday],” manager Carole Ireland said of the course, adding: “We never close unless it’s weather-related or Christmas Day.”
The clubhouse, which was damaged when a fire-suppression system malfunctioned on Jan. 15, remains closed. The District of Saanich said there was extensive damage.
Immediate restoration is estimated to take about four weeks, with the total repair and construction time estimated at six months.
The clubhouse’s closure will not affect the golf course.
Avid golfers are out on the course year round, Ireland said. Seniors especially, she said, golf through the winter, regardless of the temperature. “They’re an amazingly hardy bunch.”
