A Central Saanich councillor who has apparently been working in the Cayman Islands while on a six-month paid leave from his council duties has stepped down.
Terry Siklenka, a former general manager of Cairn-view Mechanical Ltd., has resigned his council seat effective immediately, Mayor Alastair Bryson said Monday evening.
Siklenka was granted the leave, worth almost $6,000, on Nov. 5.
His name appears as a staff member on the website of a company servicing air conditioners in the Cayman Islands.
A Central Saanich resident and blogger stumbled across the reference.
The Saanich house Sik-lenka owns with his wife is listed for sale.
Siklenka, who was first elected in 2008 and re-elected last year, last attended a council meeting Sept. 4. Bryson said his council seat will be filled.
