Butchart Gardens has cancelled its final two fireworks show of the season because of the fire risk and province-wide state of emergency.

The attraction said in a statement this Saturday’s show and the fireworks finale of the season on Sept. 2 have been called off. Butchart Gardens had previously cancelled its Aug. 19 fireworks show, a day after the province declared a state of emergency over wildfires raging across the province amid extremely dry conditions.

“We thank everyone who has supported us this season,” Butchart Gardens said in a statement on Thursday.

The gardens continue to be open for its full summer hours and other scheduled activities are going ahead. The gardens will be open until 11 p.m. on Aug. 26, with an 8 p.m. musical performance by the Chris Millington Band. Backbeat will perform on Sept. 2.

On those two Saturdays, 12-month passes are valid all day as there are no fireworks shows.
