Busy Christmas Eve for Victoria police, says chief

Police chief highlights three incidents in Victoria on Sunday.

Victoria’s police chief says his officers were kept busy on Christmas Eve dealing with public disorder and crime. Chief Del Manak reported on three incidents that happened in Victoria on Sunday afternoon.

One officer was assaulted in an incident where a man refused to leave a store and that involved taser deployment, he said on social media.

Another had a cup of vomit thrown on them while removing a passenger from a B.C. Transit bus.

One woman was arrested in downtown Victoria, allegedly for trying to puncture the tires of 20 vehicles.

But there were some upsides too, Manak said. “One officer returned to his patrol car parked downtown after a call and found a kind citizen had left a Tim Hortons gift card on his car.”

“Good or bad, our [Victoria police] officers are out on our streets keeping everyone safe and ensuring Santa’s safe arrival,” he said.
