Bank worker charged with fraud, theft

A Nanaimo man employed as customer services manager at a local bank has been charged with theft and fraud after $60,000 disappeared from dormant bank accounts. Federick Scott Deering, 48, is due to appear in court on Sept. 25.

Federick Scott Deering, 48, is due to appear in court on Sept. 25.

Deering was employed at the TD Canada Trust branch at Turner Road.

Prior to that, worked for another branch at the Terminal Park mall.

His employment was terminated by the bank in October 2010.

An investigation was launched in September 2010 by Nanaimo RCMP and TD Canada Trust after the bank's books did not add up.

Police said no bank account holders from the Nanaimo area were affected.
