People are being advised to avoid the area of Wallace Drive near West Saanich Road in Brentwood Bay due to a damaged gas line.
Central Saanich police asked motorists to avoid Wallace near Brewskys Tap House and to use an alternate route.
At 4:15 p.m., the Central Saanich Fire Department said on social media that the taphouse was being ventilated and that FortisBC was expected to be working for several more hours.
FortisBC spokesperson Holly Harrison said gas supply to 11 customers was affected, which was reported shortly after 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.
Crews were on scene by 12:30 p.m. and got the gas under control by 3 p.m., she said.
Repairs were largely completed by 4 p.m. and crews were turning on gas meters and relighting appliances for affected customers, she said.
Harrison said the damage was caused by an external party, though she was unable to provide any further information.
FortisBC will undertake its regular investigation process regarding the damage, she said.
Brewskys Taphouse said it would be closed on Tuesday evening.
“We hope you understand and will join us again tomorrow when the air is fresher,” it said in a post on social media.
