After an early dismissal Wednesday due to a shooting threat, Oak Bay High School sent a note to parents Thursday saying that a “subsequent message” had been found in the building.

The message did not contain a new threat, the note from principal Shawn Boulding said.

In consultation with Oak Bay police, it was decided that another early dismissal was not required, he said.

On Friday, the school will hold assemblies with students to reinforce the importance of safety and accessing support if needed, Boulding said. “If your child requires additional support, please know that administrators and counsellors are available.”

He asked anyone with information that could add to the investigation to reach out to the school.

The initial note was found on the door of a bathroom stall. It indicated that someone was going to bring a gun to school and there would be a shooting at 2 p.m.

Police advised that the school’s 1,150 students be dismissed early, and they were let out at 1 p.m. out of what superintendent Deb Whitten called “an abundance of caution.”

Officers remained at the school after students and staff were gone but found no evidence of anyone having a firearm.
