Alarms might be heard during spill simulation: DND

Wednesday’s exercise at its Colwood fueling facility and in Esquimalt Harbour will include spill-response boats, protection booms and fuel skimmers

The Department of National Defence is warning that short, intermittent alarms might sound as it conducts a simulated-spill exercise today from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. at its Colwood fuelling facility and in Esquimalt Harbour.

The exercise will include spill-response boats, protection booms and fuel skimmers.

Such exercises are part of a commitment “to being a responsible and dedicated steward of the marine environment,” the base said in a statement.

The exercise will be led by CFB Esquimalt’s Port Operations and Emergency Services Branch.
