4.5-magnitude earthquake strikes off Haida Gwaii

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Haida Gwaii this morning, but no tsunami warning was issued. According to Earthquakes Canada, the quake happened at 5.41 a.m.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Haida Gwaii this morning, but no tsunami warning was issued.

According to Earthquakes Canada, the quake happened at 5.41 a.m., about 52 kilometres south-southwest of Queen Charlotte City and 152 kilometres from the town of Masset.

There were no initial reports of damage and no injuries.

According to one earthquake reporting website, some residents felt short but strong shaking of their home.

Last October, a 7.7-magnitude earthquake rocked the islands and the province's northwest coast and caused widespread fears of a tsunami, sending residents scrambling to higher ground.R
