10,000 without power Sunday on southern Island, majority in West Shore

About 10,000 homes were without power on Southern Vancouver Island on Sunday afternoon.

Reports of about two dozen power outages began coming in shortly after 1 p.m, with the majority in the West Shore.

One outage in Sooke affecting 1,450 people was identified as being caused by a downed tree.

An outage had cut power to 3,400 customers in the West Shore since 2:30 p.m.

Most of the outages were still under investigation as of 3 p.m. Sunday.

Customers in North Saanich, Shawnigan Lake, and Galiano Island were also affected.

Power was restored to most of the areas by Sunday night.
