Saanich and the Peninsula

Victoria Judo Club — Jan. 1, 2 and 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Lochside Elementary School, 1145 Royal Oak Dr. By donation with proceeds supporting youth and community athletics.

Central Saanich Lions Club — Jan. 2, 3, 8 and 9, 9:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at 1700 Keating Cross Rd., across from Municipal Works Yard. Donation box provided, COVID protocols practised.

Reynolds Secondary School — Jan. 8 and 9, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Reynolds School parking lot, 3963 Bordon St. By donation.

Community Living Victoria — Jan. 8 and 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at 3861 Cedar Hill Cross Rd. By donation.

Claremont Key Club — Jan. 8, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., and Jan. 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at Claremont Secondary School, 4980 Wesley Rd. By donation.

UVic Vikes Cross Country and Track Team — Jan. 8 and 9, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Centennial Stadium parking lot, University of Victoria. By donation.

Sidney Lions Club — Jan. 8 and 9, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Iroquois Park on Ocean Avenue in the overflow parking lot. By donation, bottle drive as well. Please stay in your car.

Peninsula Minor Hockey Association — U13 team will be hosting a Christmas tree chipping fundraiser 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Jan. 8 and 9 at Panorama Recreation Centre. Chipping services provided by Capital Tree Services.

McKenzie Elementary Parents Advisory Council — Jan. 8 and 9, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at McKenzie Elementary School back parking lot, 4005 Raymond St. North. By donation to support the creation of Outdoor Learning Spaces.

West Shore

Knights of Columbus — Jan. 1, 11 a.m.-3 p.m. and Jan. 8, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Parish, 753 Burnside Rd. West. By donation.

Juan de Fuca Search and Rescue — Jan. 2, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Slegg Lumber, 2901 Sooke Rd. By donation, proceeds to search-and-rescue volunteers. Bottle drive event as well.

Colwood Volunteer Firefighters Association — Jan. 8 and 9, 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Colwood Fire Hall, 3215 Metchosin Rd. By donation, proceeds to Colwood Volunteer Firefighter’s Historical Fund.

Greater Victoria core

Oak Bay Fire Department — Jan. 1 and 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at Fireman’s Park, 1703 Monterey Ave., behind the fire hall. By donation, proceeds go toward the Oak Bay High School bursary program.

Castaway Wanderers Rugby Club — Jan. 1 and 2, 8 and 9, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., and Jan. 15, 1-4 p.m. at Currie Road next to the Windsor Park Rose Garden. By donation to the active participation of community youth in mini and junior rugby.

Victoria High School — Jan. 8, 9 and 15, 16, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m, at SJ Willis Campus, 923 Topaz Ave., parking lots 1 and 2. By donation.

Central Music Parents Association — Jan. 8 and 9, 9 a,m.-4 p.m. at Central Middle School, 1280 Fort St. By donation in support of music at Central Middle School.

Compassionate Resource Warehouse — Jan. 8 and 9, 10-4 p.m. at the Archie Browning Sports Centre Parking Lot, 1151 Esquimalt Rd. (Lyall Street side of the Archie Browning Centre). By donation, proceeds to youth programs in Esquimalt.

The James Bay Athletic Association — Jan. 8 and 9, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at their clubhouse, 205 Simcoe St.

Various

Easter Seals Christmas tree recycling fundraiser — Jan. 8 and 9, people can drop off their trees with a cash donation at one of the following locations: Tillicum Shopping Centre, Save-On-Foods (Fort and Foul Bay), Westshore Town Centre, University Heights Shopping Centre and Broadmead Village Shopping Centre. Davey Tree Services and volunteers from Lions Clubs will be onsite at all locations, safety protocols will be followed. Visit eastersealsbcy.ca for details and times.

Elsewhere on the Island

Campbell River Firefighters — Jan. 2, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.in the Sportsplex parking lot. By donation to the B.C. Professional Fire Fighters’ Burn Fund and local charities. Tree chips will be composted. COVID-19 safety protocols will be followed using drive-through drop-off.

Municipal yard waste depots

Hartland Landfill, Hartland Avenue. Open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.; Saturday, 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Closed Sundays and statutory holidays.

Colwood Public Works Yard, 3300 Wishart Rd., 250-474-4133. Open the first and third Saturday of each month, 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.

Esquimalt/View Royal Yard & Garden Waste Transfer Station, 605 Canteen Rd., 250-883-8683. Open Tuesday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed Jan. 1.

North Saanich Public Works Yard, 10180 Littlewood Rd., 250-656-0781. Open Jan. 14, 27 and all Saturdays except Jan. 1.
