The Maritime Museum of B.C. opened in 1955 on Signal Hill just outside HMC Dockyard in Esquimalt. By 1965, the museum had outgrown the original location and found a new home in the former Supreme Court building in Bastion Square.
The Maritime Museum of B.C. represents a rich link to the province’s legal and nautical roots. In addition to the more than 35,000 unique artifacts, 40,000 photographs and an internationally recognized chart collection it cares for, it is home to three significant sailboats — Dorothy, Trekka and Tilikum — each with its own incredible story of adventure and enchantment.
The Maritime Museum currently seeks volunteers to serve at the front desk welcoming visitors, operating the gift shop, and for general interpretation on current exhibits. An interest and knowledge of marine history are helpful but not necessary. While fluency in English is essential, ability in any other language(s) would be an asset. Please contact Ann Jones at [email protected] or come into the museum at 634 Humboldt St. and complete an application.
