Get off the dock and into a shell• The Victoria City Rowing Club at Elk Lake and the Go Rowing and Paddling Association centres on the Gorge Waterway and West Shore are the prime places to start, with a variety of recreational and competitive programs for singles, doubles, quads or eights.• Adult learn-to-row programs, beginning in March or April and running through September, feature eight sessions for approximately $200, and offer beginners all the basics, such as how not to fall out of the boat.• The Community Corporate Rowing Challenge is held at all three locations during April and May. Any business, group or club can throw together a quad or eight team, learn to row and compete in the championship regatta at the Selkirk Waterfront Festival. Cost is about $200 per person.• Once you’re stroking with panache, competitive options for all ages await. Or, you can simply row for fun in recreational divisions. • Just don’t forget a change of clothes.
