Planting the seeds of spring

Although it's only fall, Mother Nature has already planted her garden for next year. Parents can help their children plan their own gardens at Seed Day on Sunday at the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary.

Although it's only fall, Mother Nature has already planted her garden for next year. Parents can help their children plan their own gardens at Seed Day on Sunday at the Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary.

Families can participate in crafts, hands-on explorations and a seed scavenger hunt. They can also view seed displays and take a seed home to plant for next year. Admission is by donation. The drop-in event runs from noon to 3 p.m. at the nature sanctuary, 3873 Swan Lake Rd. in Saanich. For more information, go to swanlake.bc.ca.

The next special event at the nature sanctuary is the Wild Mushroom Show, presented by the Southern Vancouver Island Mycological Society, on Oct. 28.
