NATURE

A dry summer followed by pounding rain has been good news for Vancouver Island mushrooms, now popping up in great numbers. If you're curious about this and related mushroom topics, drop into the South Vancouver Island Mycological Association's show Sunday at the Swan Lake Nature Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

More than 200 species of mushroom will be on display. The public is invited to bring species for identification by mycologists, who'll also provide tips for identifying different varieties and information on what species are edible and which ones are poisonous.

Club members will cook wild mushrooms for the public to taste, and a dissecting microscope will be set up. Mushroom growing kits will be on sale.

The Swan Lake Nature Centre is located at 3873 Swan Lake Rd. Admission is by donation.
