Victoria author Judd Palmer is shortlisted for a $25,000 Governor General's Literary Award for his children's book, The Umbrella.
The book, for ages seven and up, is the darkly humourous tale about a human and his umbrella.
Palmer is a writer, illustrator and puppeteer who cofounded Calgary's Old Trout Puppet Workshop.
He occasionally performs with Victoria's Puente Theatre, a multicultural company overseen by his wife, artistic director Mercedes Bátiz-Benét.
The awards will be announced in Ottawa on Nov. 28.
Nanaimo-born UVic grad Tamas Dobozy was shortlisted in the fiction category for his book Siege 13.
