Sign up for a Times Colonist 10K running clinic and get fit

While a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step, getting fit enough to run or walk 10 kilometres in three months can start with a Times Colonist 10K running clinic.
While a journey of a thousand miles starts with one step, getting fit enough to run or walk 10 kilometres in three months can start with a Times Colonist 10K running clinic.

On Saturday, a small army of volunteers will gather for a day of orientation and training at the Pacific Institute for Sport Excellence.

The volunteers will guide running-clinic participants through 14 weeks of training leading up to race day April 28.

Early-bird registration for the TC 10K has already started. Registration in the run is included in the price of the clinic.

There are 13 clinics in recreation centres throughout Greater Victoria, Sooke, Shawnigan and Ladysmith. The first of the classes starts Jan. 19. Some classes take place on weekday evenings, others during the day on weekends.

The gradual program is for walkers and runners.

The clinics are an integral part of the 10-kilometre walk or run. Many first-time runners sign up for the clinics to get motivated, while others come to get tips and training from the run leaders — many of whom have been running for several years.

The cost of the clinics is $120 plus HST. They operate at various times of the week. For more information, go to tc10k.ca.
