Danny Strong has been selected to write the final two instalments of The Hunger Games for Lionsgate, according to a source with knowledge of the studio's plans.

No papers have been signed, but Strong, who won two 2012 Emmys for his work on HBO's Game Change, is the studio's choice - though the studio declined to comment on the record.

Lionsgate decided earlier this year to turn Suzanne Collins' third and final book in the young adult series, Mockingjay, into two films.

The first film will debut Nov. 21, 2014, and the second Nov. 20, 2015.

Gary Ross' adaptation of the first Hunger Games book grossed $685 million at the global box office.

Simon Beaufoy adapted Catching Fire, the second book, and that film is due for a Nov. 22, 2013, release. Stars Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth all will be back, while Philip Seymour Hoffman and Jeffrey Wright, among others, have signed on.
