FILM
What: Walking the Camino
Where: Cinecenta, UVic
When: Tuesday, 7, 8:45 p.m.
Rating: Three stars out of five
Why: Although it preaches to the converted, there’s enough to savour in Portland filmmaker Lydia B. Smith’s documentary following a group of international pilgrims, including UVic alumnus and retired educator Wayne Emde, walking the ancient 800-kilometre path of the title from France through northern Spain in the traditional manner to make it a worthwhile journey for others — especially anyone contemplating following in the pilgrims’ footsteps. “It’s like walking in a postcard,” says one pilgrim in Cinecenta’s springtime hit, back by popular demand for those who missed it. — Michael D. Reid
MUSIC
What: Music on the Lawn
When: Saturday, 6 to 8 p.m.
Where: Government House

Why: Government House has one of the nicest public properties in residential Victoria. What better way to enjoy the grounds than with live music? The Music on the Lawn series is already underway, but there are still two free concerts to take in. Bring your blankets and chair to the bandshell on the property’s east lawn for Dock Side Drive this Saturday and Cookeilidh next Saturday. The House will also be open from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. for a walk-through of the public rooms. — Amy Smart
JAZZ
What: P.J. Perry and friends
Where: Hermann’s Jazz Club
When: Friday, 8 p.m.

Why: Alberta’s P.J. Perry is a highly respected jazz musician who loves to play be-bop. In this combo the Juno-winning saxophonist is reunited with a stellar trio of long-time musical pals: Ian McDougall (trombone), Oliver Gannon (guitar) and Neil Swainson (bass). (For those unable to make this worthwhile gig, the quartet also plays 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Sylvan United Church in Mill Bay and Sunday, 2 p.m., at the Crofton Hotel pub.) — Adrian Chamberlain
