The 16th annual event was held at the Union Club of British Columbia and hosted by CBC Radio’s Gregor Craigie. Page and Cassie each took home $5,000 in winnings.

Both are well-established writers in the Vancouver Island area. Page — a Governor General’s Award finalist and two-time Giller Prize longlist nominee — teaches at Nanaimo’s Vancouver Island University, while Cassie is a successful author-illustrator who works at home on Salt Spring Island.

The Victoria Book Prize was open to writers and illustrators in the capital region who published a new work between April 1, 2018, and March 31, 2019.
