An eight-episode TV series based on the 1997 murder of Victoria teen Reena Virk is coming to the Hulu streaming service in 2023.

Under the Bridge, which is based on the 2005 book of the same name by late Victoria writer Rebecca Godfrey, stars Golden Globe nominee Riley Keough (The Girlfriend Experience) and Lily Gladstone in key roles.

Virk is played in the series by Vritika Gupta. Gladstone, who stars alongside Leonard DiCaprio and Robert De Niro in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming Killers of the Flower Moon, appears as a fictional Victoria Police offer, while Keough, who is granddaughter of Elvis Presley, occupies the role of Godfrey.

The author, who died in October at age 54, will receive a producer’s credit on the show.

The film rights to the book have been optioned by Reese Witherspoon’s Type A Productions. It is unclear at this point if Under the Bridge will be available in Canada as the Disney-owned Hulu streams exclusively in the U.S.

The series will be of considerable interest to local viewers, however, as the case captivated the community. Warren Glowatski and Kelly Ellard, who were among the group of teens who drowned Virk under the Craigflower Bridge, were convicted of second-degree murder in the case. Their stories also figure prominently in the series, which was shot in the B.C. area this year.
