Movie fans in Sidney can rejoice: The state-of-the-art Star Cinema is open for business.

The beloved theatre, which has been under renovation since 2019, reopens Friday at 6:45 p.m. with a screening of Where the Crawdads Sing. The acclaimed thriller is one of three films on tap at the multi-screen moviehouse, which is located at 9840 Third St.

Star Cinema closed the doors to its longtime Third Street location nearly three years ago. While construction on a new theatre was underway, owner Sandy Oliver has been screening movies under the Star Cinema banner from a temporary location on Fifth Street, two blocks away.

The new theatre is located inside the five-storey, 45-unit Cameo condominium building at Third Street and Sidney Avenue. Three screens with a combined 305-seat capacity are in operation, and the theatre will run up to five films per week.
