Smash has added more Broadway talent to its upcoming second season.

Jesse L. Martin, an original cast member from the Broadway cast of Rent, will join the NBC musical drama for a six-episode arc, the network said.

Martin will play Scott Welker, the artistic director of the Manhattan Theatre Workshop. He will sing in some of the episodes.

Smash returns for a second run on NBC in mid-season.

Martin is no stranger to television work. Following his run in Rent, he appeared on the Fox lawyer dramedy Ally McBeal, and played Det. Ed Green from 1999 to 2008 on Law & Order.

Smash, which chronicles the trials and triumphs of aspiring Broadway stars, underwent a shakeup at the end of its first sea-son, with creator and showrunner Theresa Rebeck departing, along with numerous cast members.

The upcoming season of the series will feature Dreamgirls star Jennifer Hudson in a multi-episode arc. Sean Hayes will also reunite with his former Will & Grace co-star and current Smash cast member Debra Messing in a multi-episode run on the series.
