A blank canvas — in the form of the Central Saanich Cultural Centre — is awaiting the ideas and inspiration of local muralists.
The District of Central Saanich is looking for an artist (or artists) with demonstrated experience to craft an original mural on the side of the building located at 1209 Clarke Rd. in Brentwood Bay. Priority will be given to muralists who reside in Central Saanich or are part of the Tsartlip or Tsawout Nation.
The deadline to apply is June 22. The winning applicant will be announced June 30 and will have up to $10,000 in funding to compete the project. The mural will be installed on the concrete block building in August or September, and as per the district’s guidelines, must be appropriate for public display.
It should also consider the area/neighbourhood’s character, environment, culture and history as the building is currently home to the district’s library, senior centre, police community office and after-school care programs.
