Local authors take home awards at annual B.C. and Yukon book industry event

Winners of the 2021 B.C. and Yukon Book Prizes were announced Saturday, with Victoria authors Robert Amos and Sara Cassidy emerging triumphant during the online gala. A jury for the 37th annual event selected five finalists in each prize category.

Winners of the 2021 B.C. and Yukon Book Prizes were announced Saturday, with Victoria authors Robert Amos and Sara Cassidy emerging triumphant during the online gala.

A jury for the 37th annual event selected five finalists in each prize category. Amos, a former Times Colonist columnist, won the Bill Duthie Booksellers’ Choice Award for his acclaimed outing, The E. J. Hughes Book of Boats, while Cassidy took home the Sheila A. Egoff Children’s Literature Prize for Genius Jolene.

The awards-show gala took place Saturday over Zoom. The event was hosted by author Monique Gray Smith of Victoria, who won a B.C. Book Prize in 2017.
