Television networks in Japan and Canada have won International Emmys in the news and current affairs categories for coverage related to devastating earthquakes.

Japan's NHK is the winner of the International Emmy in the news category for its "Great East Japan Earthquake Emergency News" covering the largest quake in the country's history in March 2011, which generated a devastating tsunami.

The 2012 Emmy for current affairs has gone to CBC Television for Haiti's Orphans: One Year After the Earthquake, which follows the story of three orphaned children and the adults in Canada and Haiti who help them.

The awards were presented in conjunction with the U.S. News Emmys Monday in New York.
