THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE

When: Dec. 15-26

Where: The Roxy Theatre, 2657 Quadra St.

Tickets: $22-$30 from the Kaleidoscope Theatre (250-383-8124) or kaleidoscope.bc.ca

Why: Theatre for young people doesn’t always mean theatre aimed exclusively at children. The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe is a certifiable classic for theatregoers of all ages, for the aforementioned reasons. Adapted for the Stage by Le Clanché du Rand (who adapted the book by C.S. Lewis) has created a wondrous world of fantasy and family, and in this stage production by Kaleidoscope Theatre for Young People, which launches the company’s 50th anniversary season, Shea O’Connor (who stars as Lucy) and Dawson Rutledge (Peter) delve into a re-imagined Narnia.

CHRISTMAS AT CRAIGDARROCH CASTLE

Where: Craigdarroch Castle, 1050 Joan Cres.

When: Dec. 14-23

Tickets: $32.79 from 250-592-5323 or eventbrite.ca

Why: Jason Stevens is celebrating the 10th anniversary of A Christmas Carol at Craigdarroch Castle this month, with performances by the beloved actor on tap for the majority of the festive season. Stevens will stage his one-man version of Charles Dickens’ famed redemption tale twice nightly over eight days through Dec. 23, as part of the Christmas programming at Craigdarroch Castle; past performances have almost all sold out, which says something of Stevens’ reputation for the dramatic. Tickets are available in advance only, so plan accordingly. Seating is offered on a first come, first served basis.

DARCY & JER

Where: Royal Theatre, 805 Broughton St.

When: Thursday, Dec. 14, 8 p.m.

Tickets: $49-$70.25 from the Royal McPherson box office (250-386-6121) or rmts.bc.ca

Why: The first Canadian leg of the No Refunds tour winds down shortly after Darcy & Jer’s Victoria stop, so perhaps that will add a little zip to their inaugural Vancouver Island performance. Not that the popular dad duo needs any prodding in that department. Darcy Michael and Jeremy (Jer) Baer, who have been together as a couple for 20 years, became unlikely stars in 2021 when Michael began comically documenting facets of their life together on his TikTok account. The Canadians now have upwards of five million followers across their social media platforms, which has pushed the event to near-capacity. Options for a meet-and-greet and photos with the two stars are available.
