More than 60 local dancers are needed for a variety of supporting roles in Goh Ballet's production of The Nutcracker.

Dance Victoria will host auditions for dancers ages six through 16 beginning Sept. 7.

Those selected to play lambs, mice, angels and party-goers will train every Sunday with local repetiteur Wendy Vernon, before dancing as guest stars with the Vancouver based company at the Royal Theatre, Nov. 30 to Dec. 2.

More-experienced dancers also have a new opportunity to have their hands in the production process. The inaugural Nutcracker Internship Program gives dancers 13 and older an inside view of the making of a professional production.

Those selected for the program will assist Vernon with teaching choreography to the young dancers, mentoring them through rehearsals, as well as assisting backstage.

The program is designed to assist teen dancers in building their resumés and may satisfy work-experience credits for school, depending on school requirements. Preference will be given to applicants who also audition and accept a role in show.

Auditions and rehearsals take place at the Dance Victoria studios. For more information, go to DanceVictoria.com or call 250-595-1829.
