LEFT: 1966 PLYMOUTH BARRACUDA

I'm a 58 year-old woman in her midlife adjustment phase.

My favourite car is the first car I ever bought with my own money - a 1966 Plymouth Barracuda. I bought it in 1990, and it was in such bad shape it had to be towed to our house. After some basic fixing, new tires, and paint job - Cayman Green - it was the dream car from my childhood. I wanted a car that was unique, turned heads and could lay rubber.

I have owned four of these cars since I bought my first one in February 1965. The present one, owned since 1993, may be the best, but each gave much satisfactory service, now totalling more than a quarter-million miles. It is powered by a six-cylinder engine with a three-speed transmission and overdrive. There is nothing about it I would change.

In almost 48 years, I have never grown tired of driving such a car. When any of these vehicles needed repair, it was within my own ability. None ever left me stranded.

No computers, no black boxes. Simple, reliable, and will carry six adults in comfort. A very nice car.
