New Spark in GM's eyes

General Motors is hoping to set the mini-car segment alight with the introduction of the 2013 Chevrolet Spark. At 3,675 mm, the Spark is the smallest car to wear the Chevy bowtie. It's even shorter than the Geo Metro of a few years ago.

At 3,675 mm, the Spark is the smallest car to wear the Chevy bowtie. It's even shorter than the Geo Metro of a few years ago. While this is new to GM, it's a segment already staked out by domestic as well as international rivals: Ford Fiesta, Honda Fit, Kia Rio and even its larger sibling, the Sonic.

Some may even compare the five-door hatchback to three-door vehicles such as the Smart Fortwo, Fiat 500 and even the Scion iQ.

These are all city cars, where a diminutive exterior is an asset. People want shorter cars for parking ease. But they also want to be able to bring along three friends.
