Chevrolet goes super Sonic

Chevrolet has just introduced the 2012 Sonic , their first Made-in-the-U.S.A. subcompact in decades. In fact it is the only subcompact manufactured in North America. It is available either as a five-door hatchback (shown) or a four-door-sedan.

The base price starts at $14,495 with a 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine mated to a five-speed manual transmission. A six-speed automatic is available. The new engine puts out a class-leading 138 hp.

The LTZ model is equipped with a 1.4-litre turbocharged engine that manages 7.3L/100 km in the city and 5.1L/ 100 km on the highway.

It is well-equipped even in its standard configuration.

Its main competitors are the Honda Fit, Toyota Yaris, Hyundai Accent, Kia Rio, Ford Fiesta and others.
