WestJet has released a July schedule that adds flights within Canada and to some U.S. cities.

Vancouver Island airports are among those that will see increased service under the July 5 to Aug. 4 schedule announced on Monday.

At Victoria International Airport, WestJet will have two flights daily between Victoria and Vancouver, as well as two flights daily between Victoria and Calgary.

There will be six flights per week between Victoria and Edmonton.

WestJet will be flying six times weekly between Nanaimo and Calgary and six times weekly between Comox and Calgary.

The July schedule will see WestJet serve 45 destinations, including 39 in Canada, five in the U.S. and one in Mexico.

That represents 102 per cent more flights than in June, but a drop of 76 per cent from July 2019, the company said in a statement.

Arved von zur Muehlen, WestJet chief commercial officer, said health vigilance must be balanced with the gradual reopening of the economy.

“WestJet has done our part and spent millions of dollars to ensure the safety and well-being of our guests and our people. We’re ready to get Canadians flying,” he said.
