Employers are at Ogden Point Saturday offering summer jobs in cruise and tourism fields.
The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Western Stevedoring building, 185 Dallas Rd.
The Victoria cruise industry is staging its first job fair to help local businesses find workers at a time when the community unemployment rate is at 4.4 per cent, one of the lowest in Canada.
Every year more than 200 cruise-ship visits bring thousands of passengers and crew members to the capital. The Star Princess will be the first ship of this year’s cruise season when it pulls in at noon on April 10.
Most of the positions will be for summer employment, but some could be permanent.
Jobs include sales, cashiers, tour guides, skilled mariners and commissionaires.
Positions would suit secondary and post-secondary students and others wanting to work in the hospitality sector. Job seekers should bring a cover letter and resume.
Employers at the event include Wilson’s Transportation, the Victoria Pedicab Co., Western Stevedoring, Butchart Gardens, Seaspan, Western Stevedoring, the Pedaler and Orca Spirit.
