Sidney-based Slegg Lumber is about to add its 12th location by moving into the Keating Industrial Park.

According to the family-owned building supply company, Slegg will move into the former Home Hardware location on Keating Cross Road and could open by the end of this year.

The 28,000-square-foot space is currently empty, but will be undergoing tenant improvements - cosmetic upgrades and new fixtures - before reopening as Slegg's newest location.

According to a Slegg spokesman, the space being leased from the Butler family will allow the company to fill "a void in the marketplace." Given its central location on the Saanich Peninsula, Slegg also said it will cut down significantly on delivery times to some building sites.

The number of new employees required for the new location has not been determined as the company said it will be relocating some staff from other stores to Keating.

Slegg might also establish a new location on Salt-spring Island in the near future after rezoning paved the way to establish a new lumber supply centre just outside Ganges.

If the company does go ahead and build a new centre on land it owns on Bed-dis Road, it will replace the existing Slegg location on Fulford Ganges Road.

Slegg Lumber currently has 11 locations, with nine on Vancouver Island, one on Saltspring Island and a contractor location in Vancouver.
