Fields have been shut down at two Prince Edward Island farms after the discovery of potato wart. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency said the situation is under control and both fields remain under quarantine. Equipment used at both farms are also being cleaned and disinfected. The potatoes produced in the two fields will be destroyed. Potato wart is a soil-borne fungus that can produce unsightly growths. While it does not pose a threat to human health or food safety, it can reduce yield and make the product unmarketable.
