Grace Van den Brink has been acclaimed as the first woman president of the Union Club of British Columbia.
A club member since 2003, Van den Brink has been served on a number of subcommittees, as a board member and vice-president. The club was founded in 1879 and is located at 805 Gordon St. in a downtown building with a neo-Georgian design.
Van den Brink was nominated by past presidents Lawrence Graham and Bernard Beck. She has served in public and private sectors. She worked in marketing and communication in Victoria and Vancouver and then moved to public affairs with the provincial government.
Also acclaimed at the club’s annual general meeting were Lyle Soetaert as vice-president and three board members — Heather Kohler, Kerri Gibson and Tony Joe.
Morgan Shaw leads Sidney business group
Morgan Shaw has been appointed executive director of the Sidney Business Improvement Area Society. Shaw, who will replace Donna Petrie, has been part of the BIA for three years. She was previously manager of visitor services for the Saanich Peninsula Chamber of Commerce.
Camosun College appoints VP for students
Heather Cummings has been named Camosun College’s vice- president of student experience. Cummings, who last served as executive director of student success at Fanshawe College in London, Ont., will be expected to oversee the registrar’s and student affairs offices, learning services, applied learning, co-operative education and student employment services. At Fanshawe, Cummings’ work focused on counselling and accessibility services, athletics and recreation, the learning centre, First Nations centre and the student wellness centre.
New campground
In a bid to offer better access to forest land in the Alberni Valley, Mosaic has added a 12th campground to its network of recreational sites with Macktush Campground. Macktush is a waterfront location with more than 90 campsites, located 40 minutes outside of Port Alberni. The campground can be booked through Mosaic’s online access portal: mosaicforests.com
